We awake to discover that our little park in Monroe was a little bit methy. Maybe not as bad as some rest areas or Walmart parking lots we may end up in from time to time, but it had a slight sketch factor. Nonetheless, it was shelter in a downpour and we were thankful to have noticed it.
Then, up and over Stephens Pass, getting to know the relationship of engine and brakes to ascent and descent in this old machine. It’s slow going both ways, one by design, one by caution. A 10% grade is not to be sniffed at, though apparently it is to tense your shoulders at. Sore!
We landed at Nasum Creek campground on Lake Wenatchee, still open in September courtesy of the USFS. A beautiful spot, full up in the summer I’m sure. We had the place almost to ourselves.
